24 Weeks: Corn

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon. (Babycenter.com)

I have already started having Braxton-hicks contractions this week. I have had 4-5 today alone. One as I write this even.

Poppy has been a busy little beaver inside the womb this week, hosting dance parties, boxing tournies, and yoga classes. Just last week I said that Poppy isn't as active is big sis, Sophia, which still holds true, though he/she certainly has been trying to keep up with the big sib.

I am just getting to the uncomfortable stage. Last night, Jared took me on a date to see Prince Caspian at the theater, and I squirmed and wiggled the entire 2 hours and 20 minutes. I could not get comfortable. My belly is getting heavier and larger and starting to get in the way a little.

I have my 24 week appointment on Thursday. Nothing exciting (in fact, she wasn't even sure she wanted to see me at all, even though it's been 6 weeks since my last appointment!). The following appointment, (at 28 weeks) we get a 2nd view of Poppy via ultrasound, and I have my glucose test. So that one will be more exciting.

I have been out in the sun a lot this week. My skin got a nice tan, which surprised me since last year I just got red blotches from any sun exposure. Well, three days after my glorious tan, the blotches appeared. Oh well:)

We leave on Monday for Mexico (coming home Friday the 4th), so next weeks update will be late!

Sorry Erin, we are still going to miss it. We are going to a family wedding in Milwaukee July 18th-20th. Ugh. I really wish we could be there for that. How special. Please have someone take lots of pictures.
